World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness on mental health and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. As such, the day provides a platform to discuss mental health challenges and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide. The theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day was ‘Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority‘.

From the Project team’s interaction with women and people within the community, many do not take mental health to be of great concern and have so many myths around mental illness. Women with mental health challenges are discriminated against and usually stigmatized within their communities. Some families do not know the referral pathway and how to support family members with mental health challenges.

In order to commemorate World Mental Health Day, the Women Project therefore conducted a community dialogue.

The dialogue was well attended by over 50 participants inclusive of local leaders and community members.

There was a series of questions asked in relation to mental illness and how community members can support homeless women with mental disabilities while protecting their rights.

We are thankful to our donors from SIND Mental Health in Denmark for making this possible.
